The Stage of Integrating the Strategy (책략에 와착하는 단계)

[English] Achieve greater tact ical f luidi ty w i th Waryak (臥略), the f i fth stage of the Samwonbon ser ies. The name Waryak is der ived from the Hanja Wa (臥), meaning “ to l ie down” or “ to sett le, ” and Ryak (略), meaning “strategy,” “ tact ics, ” or “strategic method. ”

Together , Waryak represents “The Stage of Integrat ing Strategy.”

Bui lding upon the natural and inst inct ive movement developed in Jwajeong, pract i t ioners now advance from the embodiment of technique to the integrat ion of strategy.

At this stage, strategy is no longer separated from physical act ion. It becomes deeply embedded in percept ion, judgment , t im ing, and movement . Through the concept of Wachak, pract i t ioners learn to adapt natural ly to changing si tuat ions, al low ing strategy and physical response to funct ion as one.

Rather than consciously select ing a technique, they learn to recognize the si tuat ion, ant icipate change, and respond w i th the appropr iate movement at the appropr iate moment .

At this stage, strategy becomes part of the pract i t ioner’s inst inct ive response, prepar ing them for a deeper level of Gongkwon Yusul .

[한국어] 삼원본의 다섯 번째 단계인 와략(臥略)을 통해 더욱 높은 수준의 전술적 유연성을 발전시킵니다. 와략이라는 명칭은 ‘눕다, 자리 잡다’를 뜻하는 누울 와(臥)와 ‘책략, 전략, 꾀’를 의미하는 꾀 략(略)에서 유래합니다.

이러한 의미를 종합하면 와략은 “책략에 와착하는 단계”를 의미합니다.

좌정에서 기술과 원리가 자연스럽고 본능적인 움직임으로 자리 잡았다면, 와략에서는 기술의 체화를 넘어 책략을 신체의 움직임과 통합하는 단계로 발전합니다. 이 단계에서 책략은 신체적 행동과 분리되어 존재하지 않으며, 상황을 바라보는 인식과 판단, 타이밍, 움직임 속에 깊이 자리 잡게 됩니다.

‘와착’의 개념을 통해 수련자는 변화하는 상황에 자연스럽게 적응하며, 책략과 신체 반응이 하나로 작용하도록 수련합니다. 어떤 기술을 사용할지 머리로 선택하는 것에서 발전하여 상황을 읽고, 변화를 예측하며, 적절한 순간에 적절한 움직임이 자연스럽게 나타나도록 합니다.

이 단계에서 책략은 수련자의 본능적인 대응의 일부로 자리 잡으며, 공권유술의 더욱 깊은 단계로 나아가기 위한 기반을 형성합니다.
